The attached Unit Rate Maze Challenge Task Assignment Sheet is an alternative version of the Turning video lesson Maze Challenge which uses pseudocode and Unit Rate math.

The attached Alternative Turning Task Assignment and Challenge Word file from Rich Bakala (Jefferson MS, Olympia, WA) emphasizes measurement and proportion math skills as students lay out a scaled version of the Maze Challenge and then create their own extended challenge boards

Turning Video

This Move Block video was developed by Dale Yocum (Catlin Gabel School, Portland, OR) as part of his NXT Tutorial series. These videos have been linked as Alternative Differentiated Instructional Material.  This video includes a discussion of turning.

Have students work through the "Turning"  video lesson from the "Behaviors" page in "NXT Video Trainer 2.0" from Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Academy.

Gearing Game

This web-based Gearing Game is a fun way to help students visualize the interaction of gears. Thanks to Mac Jones at Reeve's MS in Olympia, WA for this link.

LEGO 100+ Gear Calculator Video

This YouTube Video tells the story of an ancient Greek celestial calculation machine using precision gearing and a Lego implementation of the same device. It uses 1,500 parts and 110 gears to recreate the Greek invention. This is a great supplement to the Advanced Gearing lesson as it shows how the Greeks used compound gearing to do complex math. Thanks to Mac Jones at Reeve's MS in Olympia, WA for this link.

Advanced Gearing: Complex and Compound Gear Trains

The attached Advanced Gearing PowerPoint presentation extends the basic gearing lesson and introduces complex and compound gearing.  A compound gearing challenge is also included.

Getting in Gear

The attached PowerPoint presentation introduces concpets around gearing for robot design.

Move Until Sound_Alt_Task

The attached Word file is an Alternative Instructional resource from Rich Bakala (Jefferson MS, Olympia, WA) which emphasizes written communication skills through a "Project Packet", as well as measurement and geometry skills as students lay out their own boards and provide geometric calculations for 3 extended challenges.
