Lesson: 20L ESR Introducing the EV3 Programming Software

Overview: 
This lesson introduces the LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 programming software and describes how to create/rename/download a program and how to see the EV3 sensing its environment and responding to instructions.
Objectives: 

1) Watch this video describing the Chromebook app called EV3 Programming:

2) Start the video again and pause when you can see the window showing the EV3 brick and motor.  

3) Get the following parts out of your bag and build the model seen in the video (note: the wire plugs into Port A on the EV3 Brick):

  1. EV3 Brick
  2. Large Motor
  3. Wire
  4. Gray Axle
  5. Wheel & Tire
  6. White pointer

4) Watch the video again, this time pausing along the way to follow the steps and download & run the program to make the motor spin.

5) Try to figure out how to change your program to make the motor run longer. 

6) Answer these questions:

How do you rename a program?

What is Port View? 

What does it show you?
