Lesson: OSD 20V ESR The Same, But Different

Printer-friendly version
Objectives:

This lesson uses a set of 3 CoderZ activities to teach students how to use the Cyber Robotics 101 environment.  Many features and conventions carry over from the Amazon Cyber Robotics Challenge, but there are key differences too.

1) Watch the video below to learn some of the differences between the CoderZ Adventure course used in Units 1 & 2, (NOTE: This OSD course used the Amazon Cyber Robotics Challenge in Units 1 & 2, rather than CoderZ Adventure, so please ignore references to CoderZ Adventure) and Cyber Robotics 101 that will be used in Unit 3 and beyond:

2) Follow the animated prompts to run a program in the Cyber Robotics 101 simulator:

Cyber Robotics 101: Getting Started >> Mission 1 (Getting Started: Run Simulation)

3) Follow the animated prompts to connect a Block and then run a program in the Cyber Robotics 101:

Cyber Robotics 101: Getting Started >> Mission 2 (Getting Started: Snapping Blocks)

4) Finally, follow the animated prompts to drag a Block from the menu (notice the menu has many more commands than in Amazon Cyber Robotics Challenge) and then run a program in the Cyber Robotics 101:

Cyber Robotics 101: Getting Started >> Mission 3 (Getting Started: Adding Blocks)

5) Poke around the Block Menu and the Simulation window and then answer these questions comparing the new Cyber Robotics 101 world to the Amazon Cyber Robotics Challenge world you are familiar with from Units 1 & 2:

What is similar between the two worlds?
What is different?
