Unit: Recreational sUAVs - Under Construction

Overview:
This Unit introduces Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)for Aerial Robotics and covers operations under the Recreational/Hobbyist rules of the FAA (formerly Section 336, now becoming Section 349 of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018; H.R. 302). It focuses mostly on indoor UAV operations and small/light aircraft, neither of which are regulated by the FAA. The limited use of outdoor UAVs above the FAA weight limit is also included, with the understanding that these will be used only over school property and operated under Section 336/349 regulations (non-commercial Recreation/Hobbyist use). After a introductory review of UAVs, UAV Equipment, Piloting, Flight Operations and Aerodynamics are covered using a resource from the Patuxent Partnership (TPP) as the Primary Instructional Material for these topics (with supporting Differentiated Instructional Material to add depth on desired topics). Coding and Photo/Video Operations are also covered with Primary Instructional Material from other sources.
