Instructional Material: Fruit Picker Extended Challenge

The complexity of the Fruit Picker challenge can readily be extended:

  • More than two trees
    • dead reckoning and odometry solutions will likely be insufficient
    • sensors will need for navigation
  • Only collect one color of fruit
    • requires a light (or color) sensor be attached to gripper to distinguish the fruit
    • need to allow for incorrect fruit to be discarded (fruit may topple while being checked for color)
  • Random tree locations
    • requires a tree searching program and the US sensor (or touch sensor if your trees are quite rigid)
    • a modified gripper or tree-honing program may be required
