Classroom Resource: CTE Science Course Equivalency Framework & Leadership Equivalency
OSPI has approved the Lab Science Course Equivalency for the STEM Robotics 101 EV3. The Official framework is available on this OSPI CTE Resource Page (New Statewide Framework - 150506 Robotics). NOTE: this framework is a template containing the outline of the course, Unit Names, Durations and Summaries, example Performance Assessments, Leadership Alignments and Industry Standards/Competencies - these all need to be updated to reflect what you will actually use in your class. Also, this template framework contains the the Science Standards and NGSS SEPs, DCIs and CCCs that MUST be taught in order to offer the 3rd Year Lab Science Credit - you made add to these, but not remove any. Also, there are no non-Science standards in the template, so you need to add the Math, CS, ELA, Ed Tech, etc. standards that you will also cover. This template is deliberately designed to be platform independent (not necessarily based on STEM Robotics 101 EV3).
As an example of the final product, attached is the OSPI-approved framework for the Olympia School District. The required content (see previous paragraph) has been added to reflect the Implementation of the framework using the STEM Robotics 101 EV3 Curriculum. All the Science standards, SEPs, DCIs and CCCs remain from the OSPI template. Also attached is the model CTE Leadership Equivalency documents for FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Support/Community Outreach as a leadership activities.
The Science Course Equivalency STEM+CS Robotics 101 Framework is based on the STEM Robotics 101 EV3 curriculum on this site and this current revision incorporates the new Washington State CTE Framework Template and CTE Leadership Alignment, the Common Core Standards for Math and English Language Arts, the Next Generation Science Standards, national Educational Technology Standards, and the new Washington Computer Science Standards. This framework is specific to the LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 platform as it uses the embedded Data Logging capability for scientific data gathering and analysis.
NOTE:
The attached framework contains all the units, lessons, competencies, performance assessments and standards that the Olympia School District will teach to offer a high school science credit for STEM Robotics 101. Each school/district needs to modify this framework and LE prior to submission to OSPI to reflect the actual:
> Leadership Activities and Performance Assessments that WILL be used,
> Leadership Standards and Competencies that WILL be demonstrated,
> Any local content that WILL be ADDED to the framework.
on a unit-by-unit basis.
