Lesson Creation Tutorial
There are 2 ways to begin creating a new lesson. The first is to click on the Lesson link on the Contribute page. The second is to push the green plus button on the unit creation page. Either way you are now presented with the lesson creation screen. You can now create a new lesson and link an instruction guide, instructional materials and assessments to it.
Lesson Content:
1. Give your lesson a title.
2. Provide an overview of your new lesson.
3. Enter the objectives of this lesson.
Lesson Metadata:
4. Choose the education level that you new course corresponds to. You may select as many options from the list as applies. Hold the control key and use the mouse to select multiple options.
5. Now select the interactivity style for this course. Interactivity is defined as
Interactivity Type (IEEE 1484.12.1-2002) for e-learning objects:
- active: Active learning (e.g., learning by doing) is supported by content that directly induces productive action by the learner.
- expositive: Expositive learning (e.g., passive learning) occurs when the learner's job mainly consists of absorbing the content exposed to them.
- mixed: A blend of active and expositive interactivity types.
- At the course level this is most likely mixed.
6. Then select the focus area of this course. Once again you may select multiple options and at the course level you will most likely choose many options. (this is optional)
7. Next choose the hardware and software platforms used in this course.
Lesson Materials:
8. Now add your instructor guide for this lesson
If you have already created an instructor guide you can find it by typing its name into the text box. To create a new instructor guide click on the green plus button to the right of the text box, you will then be taken to a new instruction guide creation page.
9. Now add the primary instruction material for your lesson.
If you have already created your instructional material you can find it by typing its name into the text box. To create new instructional material click on the green plus button to the right of the text box, you will then be taken to a new instructional material creation page.
10. Next if you have differentiated instructional material determine if it is "Extended", "Supplemental", or "Alternative" and attach it to the appropriate place.

11. Next if you have any assessments for this unit you can attach them now. Determine if they are "formative", "summative", or "Additional" and attach it to the appropriate place.
If you have already created your assessment you can find it by typing its name into the text box. To create a new assessment click on the green plus button to the right of the text box, you will then be taken to a new assessment creation page.
12. You may now add intial tags for your content and set the copyright line. (this is optional)
13. Lastly you can link your lesson to an existing unit. If you entered this form from a unit creation for this field should already have that unit selected.
Save your lesson
